“The Bridge: The Power of Music”

Story posted October 17, 2016 in News by Olivia Gildea

A year and a half ago, Carolina Negrón had an idea. “I picked [the guitar] up one day and I was like, ‘I wanna learn how to play this.’ And then I did.”

Without professional lessons and through the help of her brother and her friends- both old and new- Carolina began playing the guitar. And she never stopped.

Whether she’s writing her own music or playing covers of a band’s song, Negrón feels the power of the music and its ability to bring people together. Even if it’s just by listening to a song on the radio.

“I think music is like the purest form of expression that there is,” Negrón said. “Music can start movements and revolutions and all different things.”

Even though she’s just beginning, Negrón constantly finds new connections with people through the act of playing or listening to music, and to her that bond is too powerful to quit.
