Senior / Broadcast Journalism

My name is Katie Filling and I am a senior studying Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish at Penn State University. My broadcasting experience started with our student run news show on Penn State Network News and expanded as I had three internships throughout my college experience.

During the summer after my sophomore year I had two internships at local televisions stations in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I split my time between WGAL News 8 and Blue Ridge News 11. At both stations I was a newsroom intern and most of my days were spent in the field with reporters and photographers gathering video, interviewing sources and practicing stand-ups and live shots. I logged, wrote and edited my own version of the story every day.

I spent the first semester of my junior year anchoring our Penn State weekly student newscast as well as helping out the studio crew with production. I spent the second semester studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain. I traveled and experienced so many new cultures and developed my Spanish language speaking skills. When I returned home, I moved to New York City where I was a College Associate for Fox News Channel for the summer. I worked on the show Happening Now as a production intern. My daily routine consisted of gathering research, pitching stories, writing scripts, and assisting in the control room.

I will be graduating in May 2018 and I am looking for a full-time general assignment reporter position at a local television station. Please contact me for inquiries!
