Lamar Stevens Signs Multi-Year Extension with Cleveland Cavaliers
Looks like Lamar Stevens is sticking around in the NBA.
The rookie forward agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. The deal was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Stevens, a former Penn State Nittany Lion, had originally signed with the Cavaliers as an undrafted rookie. That original deal was a two-way contract with the Canton Charge of the G League.
Since then, Stevens has found himself playing time on a struggling Cavaliers roster that has recently seen players such as Andre Drummond leave the team. Steven is averaging about 13 minutes per game as a reliable role player for Cleveland.
Stevens is currently averaging 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in his rookie season. He scored a career-high 15 points against the Spurs last month in a game, also tallying 11 rebounds for his first NBA double-double. Stevens also hit a game-winning dunk against the Hawks back in February, helping to end a 10-game losing streak for the Cavaliers.
Before arriving in Cleveland, Stevens was a standout at Penn State where he finished his career just shy of becoming the school’s all-time leader in points. Stevens was the main reason why the Nittany Lions would’ve made the NCAA tournament in the 2019-2020 season had the coronavirus pandemic not occurred.
The details of the contract remain unclear, but what’s for certain is that we’ll be seeing the Philadelphia native in the NBA for a few more years.
