UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Over the past two weeks, coronavirus cases have been rising in State College, especially for those who live in East Halls on Penn State’s University Park campus.

On March 27, students were strongly encouraged to get tested at the pop-up testing site near Bigler Hall. Those who have already tested positive within the last 90 days did not need to get tested.

“I think the East Hall testing site is a really good way to test students without having them travel all the way across campus with busy schedules,” an anonymous freshman living in East Halls said. It makes it a lot more convenient.”

Onward State reported that “156 students are currently isolating at Penn State’s Eastview Terrace complex, while 74 are quarantined there. The university is using up 58% of its 400-room capacity. Last Friday, just 46% of rooms were in use.”

“I think a lot of freshmen want their ‘freshman experience’ back,” a different anonymous freshman majoring in business said. “So, they are going out to parties and all those fun things. Of course cases are going to rise.”

If you are experiencing symptoms, you can schedule an appointment or walk up to the Pegula Ice Arena and Hintz Family Alumni Center to get tested. These sites are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
