UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Members of the LGTBQ+ community and allies created a sea of rainbow during the Pride March and Rally on Wednesday. They marched from the HUB-Robeson Center to the steps of Old Main where participants could share their stories and motivate one another to be their true selves. Penn state student Raven Henegar said Penn State gave him his community as a transgender male.

“I go back home, they still misgender me, but when I come back, I know when I come back here after break, there are people here waiting for me that love me for who I am,” Henegar said.

Anyone had the opportunity to go to the podium to speak. While some participants shared how they came out, others shared their love for people in the LGTBQ+ community. The crowd gave their support to each speaker with cheering and clapping. Director of the Center for Gender Diversity and Inclusion, Sonya Wilmoth said she wants to affirm her commitment to justice for everyone.

“This state has many traditions,” Wilmoth said. “Let’s make acceptance, love and tolerance one that will never go away.”

April is campus pride month. All Penn State pride events can be found at psu.edu.
