Episode One

Like many Puerto Ricans on the U.S. mainland, Penn State student Valeria Mercado Medina spent a harrowing few days in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria when she wasn't able to contact her family at home. She is the president of the Penn State Puerto Rican Student Association.

This is the first in a series of podcasts about Hurricane Maria and the lingering effects of the event that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ranks as the third costliest storm in U.S. history.
