Students share their thoughts on Penn State’s new entrance policy at Beaver Stadium
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Athletics announced new safety protocols for student entry into Beaver Stadium following issues during the Minnesota football game.
The press release stated that students will receive a non-transferable wristband in order to enter the student section. This is supposed to ensure that only students enter the student section. The protocols were put in place for the Ohio State game this past Saturday.
Despite it being more difficult to enter the game, students overall believed this was a good idea.
“Last game, it was a lot more hectic, and this made the student section a lot less crowded and more organized overall,” Lauren Alling (sophomore-DUS) said.
Students claimed to have seen fist fights, people passing out and fans screaming at one another while attempting to enter the student section during the Minnesota game. It was an unsafe environment for students that caused a lot of chaos.
“I thought the entrance policy worked a lot better this weekend because it slowed everything down and let the security guards realize how many people were actually in each section before they let more people in so it wasn’t too crowded,” Megan Bablak (sophomore-finance) said.
Penn State Athletics plans to keep these additional measures and protocols in place for the remainder of the 2022 season.
