Week 11 Heisman Watch

Story posted November 16, 2015 in CommRadio, Sports by Abhar Shah

Leonard Fournette (RB, LSU)

Stats: 1,474 yards on 6.9 yards per carry, 17 touchdowns

Last week standing: 1

It was another mediocre game for Fournette, who carried the ball only 19 times for 91 yards and one touchdown. Something is up with LSU’s superstar running back because he has not been getting the same amount of touches as he did a couple of weeks ago. He doesn’t look comfortable running the ball right now whatsoever and it seems as though he’s lost a step. For the last several weeks I’ve been on the Fournette bandwagon, but with him not producing much in the last two games, he’s making the Heisman race a little tighter.

He will next take on Ole Miss and hopefully he can get back on track or the Heisman award will slip through his hands.

Derrick Henry (RB, Alabama)

Stats: 1,458 yards on 6.1 yards per carry, 19 touchdowns

Last week standing: 2

Henry has been the hottest running back, if not player, in the last couple of weeks. He continued dominating Alabama’s rushing attack last week by running the ball 22 times for 204 yards and two touchdowns. Henry is giving a lot of Fournette supporters a scare because he is producing at a very high level and Fournette has not gotten it done in the last two weeks. The best stat to support Henry’s hot streak is that he’s now rushed for 793 in four games. If he keep rushing for an average of 200 yards per game and Fournette continues his downfall, I could see Henry coming in and stealing the Heisman.

Henry and Alabama will take on Charleston Southern, so expect Henry to have another fantastic game on the ground.

Baker Mayfield (QB, Oklahoma)

Stats: 217-309 for 2,082 yards, 31 touchdowns, 5 interceptions.

Last week standing: Not mentioned

Mayfield found his way back in the running after having a great game against Baylor. The junior completed 24 out of 34 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns. He also had a productive game on the ground, running the ball 15 times for 76 yards and a touchdown. With TCU’s Trevone Boykin going down with an injury, Mayfield’s excellent play to knock Baylor out of any playoff chances puts him in the spotlight as one of the best quarterbacks in college football.

Oklahoma will take on TCU and if Boykin returns, the quarterback with the better game will find themselves back in the number three spot.

Deshaun Watson (QB, Clemson)

Stats: 216-308 for 2593 yards, 23 touchdowns, 8 interceptions

Last week standing: Honorable mention

Watson put up his best game of the season against Syracuse, going 34-47 for 360 yards and two touchdowns. He also tore it up on the ground rushing the ball 14 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. His performance helped Clemson remain undefeated for just the third time in school history and he is the ACC’s most accurate passer up to this point. Even though he might not win the Heisman this year, the sophomore could make a run at the award next year.

Clemson will hope to stay undefeated as they take on Wake Forest on November 21st.

Honorable Mentions:

Ezekiel Elliot (RB, Ohio State)

Dalvin Cook (RB, FSU)

Corey Coleman (WR, Baylor)
