A show of support for an ailing coach

Photo posted January 22, 2012 in

More than a hundred people gathered outsisde Beaver Stadium Saturday evening as news spread that legendary former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was near death. The crowd was mostly students, but also included people from the State College community.

A memorial of candles and memorabilia was placed at the base of the statue and the crowd quietly sang the Alma Mater. They were prepared to hear the coach had passed away, but Paterno's family told reporters that the former coach is still alive. With temperatures hovering at 17 degrees, the crowd dwindled and most people had left by midnight.
