The ACC had a blend of both conference and non-conference games in Week 4. We saw three teams say goodbye to their undefeated records and three continue their undefeated streaks.

Let’s take a look at this past weekend’s matchups.

West Virginia 33, Virginia Tech 10

The West Virginia Mountaineers traveled to Blacksburg, Virginia on Thursday night to hand the Virginia Tech Hokies their second loss of the season.

The Hokies held the Mountaineers at 7-3 for the majority of the second quarter until the Mountaineers scored a 35-yard field goal and a touchdown all within the last two minutes of the first half.

The second half was painless for the Mountaineers, and they proved to be dominant over the Hokies who had just come off a victory.

Syracuse 22, Virginia 20

The Syracuse Orange shut out the Virginia Cavaliers in the first half of the game, but the Cavaliers took the lead during the fourth quarter. With a game-winning field goal, Syracuse proved once again that its a top contender in the ACC this season.

No. 5 Clemson 51, No. 21 Wake Forest 45

The only ranked matchup in the ACC was not a game to miss. No. 21 Wake Forest put up a tough fight against No. 5 Clemson, but fell short in a second overtime.

The Tigers hope to remain undefeated again this week as they return to Death Valley to face North Carolina State.

No. 24 Pittsburgh 45, Rhode Island 24

The Pittsburgh Panthers took care of business at home against the Rhode Island Rams. The Panthers continue to show improvement after their early loss to Tennessee.

Pitt took control of the game in the beginning of the first quarter and never gave it up. The Panthers outgained the Rams in total yards 460-286. 

Pittsburgh welcomes Georgia Tech to Heinz Field in Week 5 with plans to continue to improve its record.

Kansas 35, Duke 27

Two 3-0 teams, Kansas and Duke, met in Lawrence, Kansas for an exciting game in front of a sold-out crowd.

Duke stayed in the game the entire time, but never found the strength to take the lead. Duke needs to continue to improve their defense if they hope to see more victories in the latter half of the season. 

Louisville 41, South Florida 3 

The Louisville Cardinals dominated the South Florida Bulls, giving up only one field goal in the fourth quarter. Cardinals quarterback Malik Cunningham took over the game, finishing with four total touchdowns. Cunningham ran for three and passed for the other.

Overall, the Cardinals had an incredible game both offensively and defensively. They move into Week 5 with a record of 2-2.

Middle Tennessee 45, No. 25 Miami 31

Miami went into its matchup against Middle Tennessee as a 25.5-point favorite and left the field with their second straight loss. The Hurricanes came into the game looking for an easy win but were struck with a wake-up call.

Miami will face North Carolina in Week 5 for the start of their conference play. 

Notre Dame 45, North Carolina 32

The North Carolina Tar Heels suffered their first loss of the season to the 1-2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Fighting Irish outgained the Tar Heels in possession, total yards, first downs and touchdowns.

North Carolina has a lot to work on, especially defensively, as it heads into conference play this week.

UCF 27, Georgia Tech 10

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets continue to disappoint after earning their third loss this season. Despite outgaining the UCF Knights in total yards, the Yellow Jackets struggled to score during their five trips to the red zone.

Georgia Tech fired head coach Geoff Collins just days after its loss to UCF with aspirations of improvement as the season continues.

No. 12 NC State 41, UConn 10

NC State hosted UConn and came out victorious, which is exactly what was expected of the Wolfpack. NC State cruised through the entire game and went for a total of 492-yards compared to UConn’s 160 total yards.

Florida State 44, Boston College 14

Florida State football is back. The Florida State Seminoles continued their winning streak against the Boston College Eagles. The Seminoles' quarterback Jordan Travis completed 16-of-26 passes for 321 yards and a touchdown.

Florida State will really be put to the test this coming week as they take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, a ranked team with a record of 3-1.
