Around the Big 12: Week 4

Story posted September 28, 2022 in

The Big 12 was filled with a lot of action-packed games during week four of the college football season. All five games involving a Big 12 team on Saturday was decided by eight points or less.

The most exciting game in the conference and the most surprising result was Kansas State beating Oklahoma 41-34. Adrian Martinez had one of the best games of his career.

The transfer from Nebraska ran for 148 yards and had four rushing touchdowns. His one passing touchdown allowed him to be a part of every touchdown the team scored.

Dillion Gabriel had four passing touchdowns for the home side, but the defense couldn’t get the job done for Oklahoma.

The other big upset of the weekend was Texas Tech taking down Texas on a game winning field goal in overtime. Trey Wolff kicked what he thought was the game winning field goal with 21 seconds left in the game, but Texas was able to drive down the field and send the game to overtime with a field goal of their own. However, Bijan Robinson’s fumble in overtime setup the Red Raiders to win the game.

The teams that did the upsetting will face off this weekend in Manhattan, Kansas for a noon game. If Kansas State can get out to an early lead, their ability to run the ball will allow them to keep Texas Tech’s defense on the field for long periods of time which could be the key to the game.

Kansas has caught the eyes of the country after having two big wins against West Virginia and Houston. They continued their undefeated season by beating Duke 35-27 in front of a sell out crowd.

Jalon Daniels put the team on his back by accounting for five touchdowns on Saturday. The Jayhawks will face their toughest test so far this weekend as they host Iowa State.

Iowa State is coming off a loss at home to Baylor. Baylor had a lead of 17 at one point but Iowa State tried to fight their way back in the fourth quarter unsuccessfully.

Baylor would look to continue to climb back in the rankings with a win over Oklahoma State this weekend. The Cowboys had a bye this weekend but have two-possession wins in all three of their games this year.

Baylor will have to slow down Oklahoma State’s air raid offense as Spencer Sanders has 916
passing yards and 10 touchdowns on the season so far.

Two teams that have gotten off to rough starts will face off in primetime as West Virginia visits Texas. Both teams have relied on the rushing game this year with CJ Donaldson and Bijan Robinson having six and seven touchdowns respectively.

Oklahoma will head to Fort Worth, Texas to take on TCU in what should be an easy bounce back game for the Sooners.

There are a lot of close games on tap this weekend in the Big 12 and shoot outs should be expected as usual.
