Best Lego Movie Listicle

Story posted March 22, 2022 in Arts & Entertainment by CommRadio Arts & Entertainment Department.

Legos.

A classic childhood toy for many as well as a collectible interest for adults. The company has also produced plenty of its movies over the years.

In this listicle, the Arts and Entertainment Department takes a look at some of the toy brands' best movies released.

“The Lego Movie”

Even though there were multiple LEGO movies, this was the first one that hit the big screen. “The Lego Movie” outperformed every expectation and delivered an instant classic to a kids' movie genre.

The humor was genuinely funny which can make both kids and adults laugh. Many going into the movie thought it was going to be a cash grab but it deterred that idea by giving the audience a movie that is filled with a good story and character development.

Speaking of story, the plot of the movie was highly emotional and relatable for people of all ages. The voice cast alone managed to draw in crowds with the likes of Chris Pratt, Morgan Freeman and Will Farrel to name a few.

Back to the cash grab aspect, the movie was financially successful by making a profit from both the movie and lego sets based on the movie. So, the movie was an overwhelming financial success as well. Overall, “The Lego Movie” is the first big-budget movie that came out swinging with excellent humor and a classic kid's movie. - Ethan Hetrick

“The LEGO Batman Movie”

Spin-off movies aren’t easy to pull off. However, only three years after 2014’s “The LEGO Movie.”, one of the most impressive spin-off movies was produced with “The LEGO Batman Movie.”

Will Arnett reprised his role as Batman from the 2014 film, which was perfect casting. The cast was fully stacked with comedic talent, notably Michael Cera as Robin and Zack Galifinakis as the Joker.

Not enough nice things can be said about this movie. The voice acting is brilliant, the writing is superb and the soundtrack is beyond perfect.

“The LEGO Batman Movie” can balance making fun of the superhero genre while also being an exceptional addition to the genre. This movie manages to be goofy, meta and camp while also telling a rewarding story about a found family.

There are endless laughs between Batman claiming to have come up with the lyrics to “Man in the Mirror” or admitting to not paying taxes in song form (because he’s a billionaire, duh).

This movie is so packed with references that it demands a rewatch to appreciate them all.

“The LEGO Batman Movie” is so successful due to its uniqueness. It isn’t trying to be “The LEGO Movie,” and it isn’t trying to bandwagon on the superhero craze. It’s genuinely a masterpiece and deserves to be recognized as such. - Sophia D’Ovidio

“Bionicle: Mask of Light”

“Bionicle: Mask of Light” is one of those classic “LEGO” movies, especially for fans that fell under the “Bionicle” fanbase. It is the movie that started a trilogy of “Bionicle” movies that, despite them not being perfect, are near and dear to any fan's heart.

The movie told the story of the journey to find the seventh Toa (elemental warriors) while being guided by the legendary Kanohi Avohkii, the Mask of Light. The movie climaxes when a Matoran (a villager) finds out that he is destined to be the seventh Toa, dons the mask, and defeats Makuta Teridax underground; ultimately allowing him to open the doors back to Metru Nui, an island city that had been abandoned long before due to Makuta’s darkness.

The movie is just a great experience for fans who were of age at that time and still serves as a source of extreme nostalgia for all those that miss the old days when “Bionicle” reigned and the stories it told. - Colton Pleslusky
