Grey’s Anatomy Season 18: Episode 9 review

Story posted March 2, 2022 in Arts & Entertainment by Savannah Swartz.

The winter finale of season 18 ended with a cliffhanger, literally and figuratively. Fans were left with many unanswered questions and have been anticipating answers for two months now.

However, the biggest question waiting to be answered is, does Owen survive the accident?

This episode opened with answers immediately, which as a viewer is extremely nice. In the past, Grey’s has taken its time to reveal the state of someone’s life until much later in the episode, but thankfully this episode got right into it.

Owen is shown falling over the cliff in the car but is shown alive at the bottom. At which point, Cormac is shown running to meet the car that Teddy had gotten a ride in.

At the hospital, it is revealed that Owen’s leg is shattered and post-surgery, he will be able to walk again. Throughout his time in the ER Owen is asking for Cormac, saying that he needs to talk to him.

Before Cormac got out of the falling car, Owen confided to him that he had provided illegal end-of-life care to a veteran by giving him life-ending drugs and had promised to do the same to others.

While the veterans had all given consent to wanting these drugs, it is still very illegal and by telling Cormac he made him an accomplice.

All this drama ended with Cormac resigning to avoid being arrested or having his medical license revoked. Cormac’s appearance in the rest of the season is hard to know at this point.

In other news, Meredith operates on Dr. Hamilton to deal with the tenderness in his abdomen. He ends up being okay in the end, but Meredith makes it clear that she does not want her time to be wasted by him, and if he puts the project in jeopardy again, she will walk.

Along with this, Amelia and Kai hold a big part in this episode however not with Dr. Hamilton. The two of them shared a kiss last episode which was seen by Linc, who was on his way to declare his love to Amelia.

Linc is one to hold a grudge because he grumbled through this whole episode and then had a blowout with Amelia. To cope with all of this he slept with Jo. This seems like it is going to get messy.

Schmidt had a patient die last episode and spent this one trying to figure out how to cope.

In the past characters who react in such extreme ways to losing a patient usually ended up leaving the show. So, it may be a real possibility that Schmidt will not be present for the whole season.

In the better light of this episode, Farouk ends up getting the heart, and Megan reaches out to her therapist about her depression.

Overall, plot-wise this episode was a downer. It seems as if everything is going wrong for everyone on the show right now. It is hard to see what is going to come next.

We will probably see Owen and Farouk’s recovery and the outcome of Linc and Jo’s night together, along with changing relationship statuses between Kai and Amelia.

So far this season, the plot has not been as attention-grabbing as seasons in the past. It may be a combination of new characters that the audience is not connected with and a storyline that seems repetitive.

While this episode was meant to be a very important episode to the season it just was not interesting to watch. Questions were answered, but it felt like there could have been more.

Hopefully, in the following episode, there is a change of pace to pull in the attention of the audience and keep it interesting.
