The undefeated run continues for Penn State as it moved to a 4-0 record on Saturday.

With a score of 33-14, the blue and white took care of Central Michigan and moved up to No. 11 in the country.

Let’s take a look at how each position group performed during Saturday’s home victory.

Offense: B+

If you would’ve asked after the first two Penn State drives, there may have been a perfect score. But unfortunately that’s not how it works.

The Nittany Lions struck fast with 14 first quarter points before the offense stalled out for the remainder of the half. Sean Clifford went cold after completing his first eight passes and heard some boos at Beaver Stadium.

The game was even tied up at 14 during the first half but that’s when Kaytron Allen emerged. Following a slow start from starting running back Nicholas Singleton, Allen took over and ran for 111 yards and a touchdown.

Allen helped the Nittany Lions recover from their slow start and eventually come away with the win.

Defense: A

The only points allowed by the Penn State defense in this game all came in the second quarter when the game was tied. Aside from that quarter, the defensive unit was outstanding and held the Chippewas’ top players silent.

Among those top players was last year’s leading rusher in the nation in Lew Nichols III who was held to just 67 yards on 13 carries.

The Nittany Lions forced two interceptions in the game with one coming from Zakee Wheatley and the other from Johnny Dixon.

Just like with the offense, the blue and white saw production from their younger players as in just one drive, freshman Dani Dennis-Sutton picked up two sacks which were the only two for the defensive unit.

It’s been a pleasant surprise as to how well the defense has played so far and we’ll see if they can keep it up with Northwestern coming in.

Coaching: A

Penn State coach James Franklin did a good job keeping his team disciplined during this game.

The Nittany Lions didn’t turn the ball over at all, they took less penalties and had the ball longer than the Chippewas did offensively.

With the absence of Keyvone Lee in this game, Franklin let the freshman run and they led the way for the blue and white. Parker Washington was also featured in the game after being seemingly absent for the first few weeks as he led the way with 64 receiving yards.

There are still questions to be answered on special teams as both Sander Sahaydak and Jake Pinegar missed a field goal and the latter had an extra point blocked.

Nonetheless, Penn State remains undefeated with conference play officially resuming this week against Northwestern.
