CommRadio NFL Mock Draft 5.0 (First and Second Rounds)

Story posted April 28, 2022 in NFL Draft by Alex Rocco, Dylan Price .

With the draft mere hours away, two of CommRadio’s NFL experts sit down to pen one final mock draft and attempt to project how the first and second rounds could fall.

Round 1

1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Travon Walker EDGE, Georgia

It feels like Walker is the guy. But hours out from the start of Round 1, it sounds like this is hardly a consensus, slam-dunk pick

2. Detroit Lions: Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan

Detroit contemplates passing on Hutch, but the Michigan ties are too much and Hutch is a Dan Campbell kind of guy.

3. Houston Texans: Ikem Ekwonu, OT/G, NC State

The Texans could go in several different ways, but Ekwonu gives Houston one of the best offensive line prospects.

4. New York Jets: Jermaine Johnson, EDGE. Florida State

The Jets go with a bet on production overpotential, and Johnson may be one of the safest bets in the EDGE class.

5. New York Giants: Evan Neal, OT, Alabama

Neal's past playing right tackle and guard. He gives them more flexibility at this spot and it just makes more sense.

6. Carolina Panthers: Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State

Rather than go quarterback, the Panthers opt to grab one of the best pass protectors in the class and protect whoever is under center this fall.

7. New York Giants (VIA CHI): Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, CB, Cincinnati

After taking Evan Neal at No. 5 overall and under the impression of James Bradberry's imminent departure, the Giants take the first cornerback off the board at No. 7 overall.

8. Atlanta Falcons: Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State

The Falcons have an immediate need at wideout with Calvin Ridley’s season-long suspension, and Wilson will have the opportunity to grow with Ridley and Pitts as the team’s weapons for the long-term future.

9. Seattle Seahawks (VIA DEN): Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon

Thibodeaux offers more upside than most others in this class and the Seahawks have been chasing that type of player for quite some time.

10. New York Jets (VIA SEA): Drake London, WR, USC

Joe Douglas likes to build his receiving corps like a basketball team and who is better than the former Trojan basketball player here at 10.

11. Washington Commanders: Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

Kyle Hamilton to Washington has been one of the more popular selections at No. 11 overall. Hamilton's intelligence and awareness will probably win over coach Ron Rivera here.

12. Minnesota Vikings: Derek Stingley Jr., CB, LSU

Despite battling injuries, if Stingley can revert to his 2019 form, the Vikings could have a dominant number one cornerback for the next decade.

13. Houston Texans (VIA CLE): Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia

Jordan Davis is a freak athlete with a lot of potential and with a lot of holes the Texans decide to go with a guy that could have a Vita Vea impact.

14. Baltimore Ravens: Devonte Wyatt, DT, Georgia

The Georgia defensive tackles go back to back as Wyatt will look to grow into an eventual replacement for Calais Campbell on the defensive line.

15. Philadelphia Eagles (VIA MIA): Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama

For the second year in a row, Philadelphia drafts a wide receiver out of Alabama. Williams is ahead of his ACL recovery timeline and should not miss much, if any, of the season.

16. New Orleans Saints: (VIA IND from PHI): Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa

With Terron Armstead leaving in free agency, the team needs a franchise left tackle, Penning has room to grow, but the potential is undeniable.

17. Los Angeles Chargers: Zion Johnson, IOL, Boston College

The Chargers have a big need at interior offensive line and they scoop up one of the top guards in Zion Johnson.

18. Philadelphia Eagles (VIA NO): Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah

The Eagles need a linebacker to become an eventual leader of the defense, and Lloyd’s versatility and leadership fit that bill.

19. New Orleans Saints (VIA PHI): Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

Olave is a fantastic route runner who ran a 4.39 at the combine while he didn't always play that fast, he's an experienced difference-maker who can be a Day 1 contributor.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh

Pickett becomes the eventual successor for Big Ben and stays home in Pittsburgh.

21. New England Patriots: Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia

Nakobe Dean won the 2021 Butkus Award as the nation’s best linebacker. He is a very good reactive athlete with quickness and agility.

22. Green Bay Packers (VIA LV): Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas

Aaron Rodgers has Allen Lazard and Sammy Watkins, Burks brings a big body to the receiving corps and rounds out Rodgers’ weaponry for the upcoming season.

23. Arizona Cardinals: George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue

A pass rusher is needed with Chandler Jones in Las Vegas and J.J. Watt is now 33, so the Greek Freak is Kliff Kingsbury’s desert storm.

24. Dallas Cowboys: Kenyon Green, OL, Texas A&M

The Texas boy stays home as the Cowboys grab a beast of a guard to pair with Zack Martin.

25. Buffalo Bills: Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington

McDuffie played outside at Washington but he can line up anywhere and you can never have enough high-caliber corners.

26. Tennessee Titans: Daxton Hill, DB, Michigan

Hill has the potential to be a consistent safety in the future with the versatility to play in the slot, in the box or single high successfully.

27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Lewis Cine, S, Georgia

He runs a 4.37 40 and hits, and Todd Bowles lost Jordan Whitehead to the Jets.

28. Green Bay Packers: Drake Jackson, EDGE, USC

There is significant buzz that Jackson goes in the first, and the Packers need a replacement for Za’Darius Smith, so the cards align here at 28.

29. Kansas City Chiefs (VIA SF from MIA): Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State

Kansas City adds speed to the wide receiver room in the form of a player that can make plays at all three levels of the field.

30. Kansas City Chiefs: Arnold Ebikete, EDGE, Penn State

The Chiefs stay in Happy Valley for back-to-back picks and grab a guy in Ebikete, they’re said to be enamored with.

31. Cincinnati Bengals: Tyler Linderbaum, IOL, Iowa

Cincinnati has shown self-awareness to know its offensive line needed a lot of work. When they signed Ted Karras, they likely did not envision Linderbaum being available to them in the first round.

32. Detroit Lions (VIA LAR): Malik Willis, QB, Liberty

Willis has the highest upside of any QB in the class, and Dan Campbell walks out of the draft with an anchor on the defensive line for the future and his signal-caller of the future.

Round 2

33. Jacksonville Jaguars: Quay Walker, LB, Georgia
34. Detroit Lions: Christian Watson, WR, North Dakota State
35. New York Jets: Jaquan Brisker, S, Penn State
36. New York Giants: Boye Mafe, EDGE, Minnesota
37. Houston Texans: Christian Harris, LB, Alabama
38. New York Jets (via CAR): Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State
39. Chicago Bears: David Bell, WR, Purdue
40. Seattle Seahawks (via DEN): Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss
41. Seattle Seahawks: Tyler Smith, OT, Tulsa
42. Indianapolis Colts (via WSH): Bernard Raimann, OT, Central Michigan
43. Atlanta Falcons: David Ojabo, EDGE, Minnesota
44. Cleveland Browns: Travis Jones, DT, UConn
45. Baltimore Ravens: Kyler Gordon, CB, Washington
46. Minnesota Vikings: Logan Hall, DT, Houston
47. Washington Commanders (via IND): Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan
48. Chicago Bears (via LAC): Darian Kinnard, OL, Kentucky
49. New Orleans Saints: Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati
50. Kansas City Chiefs (via MIA): Andrew Booth Jr., CB, Clemson
51. Philadelphia Eagles: Kaiir Elam, CB, Florida
52. Pittsburgh Steelers: Perrion Winfrey, DT, Oklahoma
53. Green Bay Packers (via LV): Daniel Faalele,  OT, Minnesota
54. New England Patriots: Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati
55. Arizona Cardinals: Tariq Woolen, CB, UTSA
56. Dallas Cowboys: Nik Bonnito, EDGE, Oklahoma
57. Buffalo Bills: Kenneth Walker, RB, Michigan State
58. Atlanta Falcons (via TEN): Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor
59. Green Bay Packers: DeMarvin Leal, IDL, Texas A&M
60. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dylan Parham, OL, Memphis
61. San Francisco 49ers: Sean Rhyan, IOL, UCLA
62. Kansas City Chiefs: Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn
63. Cincinnati Bengals: Alontae Taylor, CB, Tennessee
64. Denver Broncos (via LAR): Cameron Thomas, DE, San Diego State
