NFL MVP Watch: Week 3

Story posted September 28, 2022 in

The NFL had an intense start to this season, with every MVP contender bringing the heat. Here are the top players on MVP watch after an exhilarating third week of the regular season.

Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

The man. The myth. The legend. Lamar Jackson is blowing away the league this season, leading the NFL in touchdown passes, and is in the top five for rushing yards. Only seven players have been ranked in the top five for rushing yards and passing touchdowns in the same season.

Jackson is the first to lead in passing touchdowns and is ranked in the top five in rushing yards. Jackson also had his seventh consecutive career game with at least 200 passing yards and 100 rushing yards. No player since 1950 has had more than three straight games like that. All creds to Jackson and the past few games he has played.

Jalen Hurts, QB, Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Hurts is well on his way to help make a successful season for the Eagles. After a decisive 24-8 win against the Washington Commanders, Hurt has averaged over 300 passing yards and 55.7 rushing yards per game this season. This past game, Hurts boasted a 62.9 completion percentage and an 85.8 quarterback rating, bringing him to the top of the QB game in stats.

Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen did nothing less than stay on top of his game this past week. Although the Bills fell short to the Dolphins 21-19, Allen did not disappoint. Allen's 63 passes were tied for the fourth-most in NFL history by a player without an interception. Allen also threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns.

Devonta Smith, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

Smith had a game that put him on the radar when the Eagles took on the Commanders this past week—finishing the game with career highs in receptions (8) and receiving yards (169), with 156 of those yards and touchdown just in the first half. Smith has not played like that since his days back in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
