Seth Lundy Posts Career High 32 Points in Nittany Lions’ Win over VCU

During his freshman season a year ago, Seth Lundy had received quality minutes for most of the season, but never did he have a performance like he did Wednesday night. In just the Nittany Lions’ second game of the season, Lundy posted a career high 32 points in a close 72-69 win over VCU.

Lundy also led the team in shots taken and 3-point attempts. The sophomore shot 10 balls from deep, making five of them, and was an efficient 58% shooting overall. On the defensive side, Lundy did a lot of the dirty work, as he recorded four rebounds and led the team in blocks with two.

This is the first time in his Penn State career that Lundy scored over 20 points, and he well eclipsed that mark in this game.

Before the season started, Lundy spoke about wanting to become more of a leader on the team despite his younger age. He said he had learned a lot from his mentor and former teammate Lamar Stevens, who is now on the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers.

Current teammate and Binghamton transfer Sam Sessoms wasn’t surprised with Lundy’s breakout performance.

“It made me feel happy because on a day-to-day basis, I’ve seen the work he puts in,” Sessoms said.

During Lundy’s freshman season, he averaged just over five points and two rebounds per game while playing 14 minutes a night. Lundy saw a huge increase in minutes towards the end of the season, especially during the stretch of games where guard Myreon Jones was out with illness.

His career high in minutes came against Purdue back in early February, as Lundy put up 18 points in that game, which was, at that point, his career high. Lundy would score 19 points later on in the season during a loss against Iowa, but that would remain his career high until this game against VCU.

Lundy was rather quiet in the Nittany Lions’ first game of the season against VMI, as he was one of many who struggled early on. He would finish as one of five Nittany Lions with double digit points, as he put up 12, while making three of his seven shots. Lundy did open that game as a starter.

From here, Lundy and the Nittany Lions will stay at home to take on Seton Hall. This game could be the start of Lundy’s growth to take on the role which Lamar Stevens left behind, as the sophomore starts to fulfill his goal from the start of the season of being a leader.
