Around the Big 12: Week 6

Week 5 of college football brought fans a lot of big-time matchups and some key upsets that shook up the rankings.

The Big 12 held some great matchups on its schedule and these matchups proved to be worth the watch.

No. 6 Oklahoma looked to get its team clicking again after a narrow win against West Virginia last week. The Sooners traveled to Kansas State for a rematch after last year’s shocking upset.

The Sooners relied on Spencer Rattler to lead their team and he responded by having his best performance of the season. He threw for 243 yards on 22 completions and added two touchdown passes.

Oklahoma’s defense was able to hold off a late Kansas State push and came out with the win by a score of 37-31. The Sooners move to 5-0 and remain at No. 6 in this week’s AP rankings.

Possibly considered the game of the week in the Big 12, No. 19 Oklahoma State took on No. 21 Baylor in a matchup of two undefeated top-25 teams.

Oklahoma State’s defense shined once again, holding Baylor’s offense to only 280 total yards. Jaylen Warren helped lead the offensive charge as he rushed 36 times for 125 yards and two scores.

Baylor could not capitalize on three Spencer Sanders interceptions and struggled to get anything going with its strong rushing attack.

Jaylen Warren was able to punch one in from four yards out with two minutes remaining in the game to seal the victory for the Cowboys as they defended their home turf with a score of 24-14.

With this win, Oklahoma State moves to 5-0 and jumps to No. 12 in the AP rankings. Baylor falls to 4-1 and drops out the top 25.

Previously ranked Iowa State got back on track this week as it defeated Kansas 59-7. Breece Hall had another stellar performance as he rushed 17 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Brock Purdy also stood out as he threw for four touchdowns in the first quarter.

The Texas Longhorns looked to continue their winning streak on the road against TCU. Bijan Robinson had a big day for the Longhorns as he went for 216 yards on 35 carries and scored twice. He led Texas to a big 32-27 win.

Texas now moves to 4-1 on the season and pushes its way back into the top 25. The Longhorns are now the No. 21-ranked team in the country and look to ride their momentum into next week’s game.

The last game in the Big 12 included Texas Tech and West Virginia. The Mountaineers looked to bounce back after nearly upsetting the Oklahoma Sooners last week.

Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, field goals seem to be their kryptonite. Texas Tech was able to defeat West Virginia 23-20 on a 32-yard game-winning field goal by Texas Tech’s Jonathan Garibay.

The game of the week in the Big 12 for Week 6 will undoubtedly be a matchup between No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 21 Texas.

The two teams put up a combined 98 points in their meeting last year, with Oklahoma getting the victory by a score of 53-45. Texas looks for revenge in this year’s Red River Showdown, making this game a must watch for Big 12 fans.
