It’s almost time for another huge matchup in the Big Ten.

With a battle for the top spot in the conference on the line, the No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Ann Arbor to take on the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines.

Taking a look first at the Wolverines, they hold the top spot in the standings with 45 points like they have for most of the season.

They have won their last five games coming into the matchup which includes a series sweep against in-state rival Michigan State last weekend.

Overall during the two-game series, the Wolverines were able to outscore the Spartans 13-5 winning by four in both contests.

During the opening game of the series, Michigan started the game having scored all six of their goals before the Spartans finally got on the board in the third period.

Luke Hughes scored two of those six goals with both of them coming on the power play.

Hughes would find more success during the final game of the series as he scored the final of seven goals from the Wolverines in another win.

Instead of six straight goals to open up the game, however, it would be just four straight goals for the Wolverines to start the contest as they used that hot start to propel to a 7-3 win.

Moving now to the Buckeyes, they are only trailing the Wolverines by three points and are in third place in the conference with a chance to make some noise during their final series of the regular season.

Unlike Michigan however, Ohio State is coming into this series having been swept by the second-place team in Minnesota last weekend.

That ended a seven-game point streak for the Buckeyes and made coming away with the Big Ten title that much harder.

The opening game of the Minnesota series was a close one with the Buckeyes only falling 3-2.

It would be the next game which would be much tougher for Ohio State with the Golden Gophers’ Rhett Pitlick scoring the final two goals in the 5-1 victory.

In terms of the bigger picture, even with a sweep for Ohio State, it will be tough to eventually come away with the Big Ten title.

Both the Wolverines and Golden Gophers have one more series after this weekend so the final weekend of the regular season should be quite suspenseful.
