Fantasy Football Roundup: Week Two

Story posted September 15, 2013 in CommRadio, Sports by Connor DeKranis

What a first week in the National Football League! Peyton Manning put on a show with seven touchdown passes, the Texans mounted a superb 21-point second half comeback, and all four AFC North teams lost. A crazy, and fun week proved football is officially back! Let’s get into the thick of who you should be starting week 2.

QB: Who Do I Start?

Mike Vick (PHL): There are a myriad of quarterbacks who have potential to put up solid numbers for your fantasy team this week. Having said that, one of the better options has to be Michael Vick. We were shown week 1 that Chip Kelly’s ‘Oregon-style’ offense has incredible potential to flourish in the NFL. Not only is the offense nearly impossible to prepare for, but with the defensively-shaky Chargers coming to Philly Sunday afternoon, expect Vick to put on a show.

As a dual-threat quarterback, Vick has the ability to put up big numbers for your team either through the air, or on the ground. This makes him the perfect choice at QB this week. However, as always, Vick’s performance is reliant on him staying healthy, and lasting the entire game.

RB: Who Do I Start?

Darren McFadden (OAK): I know what you must be thinking… Stay with me for just a moment. Jacksonville is travelling to the Bay Area this Sunday afternoon with the 28th worst rush defense in the league. They gave up 175 rushing yards and a touchdown to the Chiefs offense week 1.

Week-to-week, it is always a difficult decision whether or not to start McFadden. He has trouble every single game finding holes, due mainly to his sub-par offensive line. However, McFadden is a solid two-back choice, and will complement any first-round back on your roster. Don’t expect explosive numbers doubling his projection, but expect McFadden to put up decent numbers.

WR: Who Do I Start?

Brandon Marshall (CHI): This pick is mainly based on the history between these two teams at Soldier Field. The Vikings are an atrocious 1-12 in Chicago, having lost their last three games by an average of 20.3 points. Jay Cutler targets Marshall more than any other receiver on the field. That fact combined with Marshall’s playmaking abilities make him an easy choice for one of your wide receiver slots this week.

Additionally, with the Viking’s pitiful history in Chicago, and Christian Ponder’s recent struggles, starting Chicago’s Defense/Special Teams will also garner quite a few points for your team.

TE: Who Do I Start?

Jordan Cameron (CLE): I really like Cameron. He is an ex-basketball player who has all the physical traits to be the next best tight end in the league. At 6’ 5” and 245 pounds, Cameron has proven to be a main target of second year QB Brandon Weeden; especially with the suspension of receiver Josh Gordon. Cameron posted 108 yards on 9 catches with a touchdown against the Dolphins week 1. Expect Cameron to have an important role in the Brown’s offense, yet again, this Sunday against the Ravens.
