Gridiron Girls: Episode Six

Story posted October 18, 2018 in CommRadio, Sports by Sports Staff

Football analysts Carolyn Sistrand and Ariel Simpson discuss week six of the NFL as Steph Naranjo hosts CommRadio’s first all-female football podcast, Gridiron Girls:

On Thursday Night Football, the reigning Super Bowl champions proved that they still own the Giants, winning 34-13. Does the win show that the Eagles are back in their Super Bowl form or does it show just how bad the Giants actually are? Even with stud rookie running back, Saquon Barkley, almost reaching 300 yards from scrimmage, the Giants still suffered yet another loss causing them to fall 1-5. The Giants' future looks nowhere close to the playoffs as all three other teams in the NFC East hold winning records.

The Carolina Panthers fell to the Washington Redskins for the first time since 2006 with Washington’s Head Coach Joe Gibbs. After being faced with much criticism, Josh Norman showed up against his former team with two huge defensive plays during the game. Even with the Washington team shorthanded without the help of Chris Thompson and Jamison Crowder they were still able to end the Sunday with a victory on FedEx field.

The Dallas Cowboys shocked the world as they dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars winning 40-7. The elite defense of Jacksonville collapsed in its showdown against the Cowboys. Cole Beasley looked as if he was the next coming of Randy Moss against this poor defensive performance as he had 101 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Is this just an aberration or is it a sense of what is yet to come from the Cowboys?

The Patriots come up victorious in a highly anticipated game against the Chiefs. The showdown between the young quarterback Patrick Mahomes and future Hall of Famer Tom Brady was exciting, to say the least. Mahomes performed in the second half with a huge 75-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill to tie the game up with a little more than three minutes left in the fourth quarter. Hill had 142 receiving yards while Mahomes threw for 342 yards, yet this still wasn’t enough to stop Brady. The Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season as their record now falls to 5-1.
