Gridiron Girls: Week 13
Football analysts Carolyn Sistrand and Ariel Simpson discuss week 13 of the NFL as Steph Naranjo hosts CommRadio’s first all-female football podcast, Gridiron Girls.
With the holidays quickly approaching, the Gridiron Girls will lead their last podcast of the semester with a quick emergency breakdown of the NFC East.
The season has proven to be unpredictable. With some strange scenarios such as the many missed extra points followed by what looked to be effortless 63-yard field goals, big upsets over top-ranked opponents and a 33-year old-running back setting new records for the young guys to try to beat.
Just as the Washington team looked to take the division, the bad luck of the Daniel Snyder era would catch back up, as they would have to rely on Mark Sanchez, a quarterback who hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass since 2015, after Colt McCoy suffered a season ending injury with a broken right fibula.
After Washington’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, this puts the Cowboys in sole possession for first in the NFC East. Two weeks ago, we would have never expected the Cowboys to be on top, once again, the league is unpredictable.
The battle for first will take place next Sunday, Dec. 9, as the Cowboys will try to take the win at home against the 6-6 Eagles. Both teams are actively in the hunt for the division.
More surprises came as we have witnessed the end of an era with the firing of Packers head coach Mike McCarthy after the devastating loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Was this something that was long overdue? Or should the Packers have gave the coach that brought them a Super Bowl the decency of waiting until the end of the season?
This is not the only controversial topic of the NFL. The name Kareem Hunt has been all over media this week after his alleged domestic violence incident. He has already been suspended by the NFL, is a free agent and is being removed from Madden 19. This isn’t the first or last incident, as seen before with Reuben Foster and Ray Rice. So this incident restates the question of when will the NFL start to care more about domestic violence?
Tune in to listen to the Gridiron Girls last episode of the semester, where they will be addressing all these topics and more. Also stay tuned for next semester because the Gridiron Girls will be back, but with some new and exciting changes!
