Hobey Baker Watch: Week 19

Story posted March 1, 2023 in CommRadio, Sports by Anthony Desher

The 2022-23 season has just about wrapped up and players are putting the cherry on top of their campaigns. With only one week left of play, which players are putting their team over the top?

Adam Fantilli, Forward, Michigan

50 points in 29 games seems pretty difficult, right? Well, to Adam Fantilli it sure isn’t as he averages 1.72 points a game.

He only had three games this season where he was held pointless. The 20 goals and 30 assists he’s piled up puts him at the consensus number two spot in the upcoming NHL draft.

He is the perfect power forward many NHL teams dream of. If a team misses out on one and gets the second overall pick, they should be thrilled.

Logan Cooley, Forward, Minnesota

The second half of the season has been electric for Logan Cooley. The Arizona Coyotes prospect has 48 points in 33 games and has the argument to be the most talented player in the NCAA. He’s got the hands, IQ and skating ability that could awe anyone.

With Minnesota firing on all cylinders recently, Cooley is the heart and backbone of that Golden Gopher lineup. They have a chance to not only claim a Big Ten Championship, but the NCAA Championship as well.

Sean Farrell, Forward, Harvard

Six points in his five games and 47 points overall has the Harvard forward rising up the rankings. The Crimson have an offense that can score at ease and with Farrell working the helm, blink and they might put up a touchdown on your team.

Farrell is going to soon be a part of a young core in Montreal, and with the way his young career has gone, he could be a very key piece for the Canadiens moving forward.

Jason Polin, Forward, Western Michigan

No one has scored more than Jason Polin this year. With one series left against Miami, Ohio, he has the chance to break Western Michigan’s all-time record with six hat tricks.

A pure goal scorer like Polin can help put a team on the map and with the success the Broncos have had, some arrows can be pointed to him.

Scoring in hockey is hard, but watching Polin every week makes it look very easy. His 27 goals in 34 games are a prime example.

Matthew Knies, Forward, Minnesota

Speaking of elite goal-scorers, Matthew Knies has been another player who has been finding the back of the net with ease recently. With eight points in his last five games, four of those points are goals.

Polin leads the NCAA in goals, and in third place is Knies with 21.

With Cooley and Jimmy Snuggerud driving play for most of the year, Knies is finding his way on the scoresheet frequently too.
