Jimmy Garroppolo returns to 49ers

Jimmy Garroppolo is back running the San Francisco offense after second-year quarterback Trey Lance had his season ended very early on Sunday afternoon against the division rival Seattle Seahawks.

Not even five quarters into the NFL season, Kyle Shanahan had his starting quarterback Trey Lance be carted off with a broken ankle and had to call to the guy who he benched for Lance just a few months before.

Jimmy Garropolo is one of the most successful quarterbacks of the last four seasons (from a wins-loss standpoint he is 35-16 across those seasons). He has a Superbowl appearance and has participated in 2 NFC title games.

After all, the quarterback controversy over the last few months reliable is back starting, and he looked pretty good Sunday right from the jump.

He finished the game 13-21, passing for 154 total yards, one touchdown, and a passer rating of 100.1. He also had one touchdown on the ground as a runner. Jimmy led the 49ers to a 27-7 win over Seattle.

Things do not stop there for Mr. Garoppolo. In fact, it gets better. Now that he’s the starting quarterback again, he can almost double his salary from last season.

Following Sunday’s win, Jimmy received a $350k bonus after picking up the win. Garoppolo will earn $250k for playing more than 25% of the snaps in a game, which will boost to $350k if the 49ers win that game.
Garroppolo said taking over the San Francisco offense for Lance is like “riding a bike.” Meaning, he is very comfortable doing that, and it’s almost second nature for him. It sure did look like it on Sunday.

“I don't want to downplay what happened to Trey because we really do feel for him, but this is why you buy insurance," fullback Kyle Juszczyk said. "You don't want to have to use it, but Jimmy was kind of our insurance policy."

With that being said, Jimmy and the 49ers will try to keep this momentum going in Week 3, as they are facing a familiar face in a different place.

Russell Wilson and his Denver Broncos will be hosting the now Jimmy G led 49ers in next week’s matchup.

Safe to say that Jimmy got the last laugh at the 49ers who tried to ditch him after some solid years there. He should do his best Cam Newton impersonation and scream, “I’m backkkkk!”
