NFL Game of the Week: Chiefs vs. Bills

Story posted October 16, 2020 in CommRadio, Sports by Austin Groft

The Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs both suffered their first loss of the season last week. This game will be played on Monday at 5 p.m. since the Bills played their week five game on a Tuesday. Both of these teams will look to bounce back in this competitive Week 6 matchup.

The Chiefs lost to the Oakland Raiders in a high scoring game. The Raiders were trailing early on but were able to pull themselves back into the game with some explosive plays. The Chiefs dominated the first half until they lost the lead from a 72-yard receiving touchdown from Henry Ruggs III.

The Chiefs offense looked stagnant. They only rushed for 80 yards and Patrick Mahomes completed only 51% of his passes. The Raiders defense did a great job of slowing down this powerful offense.

The Bills lost Week 5 to the Tennessee Titans by a landslide score of 42-16. This was the first game all season that Josh Allen struggled. He threw two interceptions, one of which was at the beginning of the game.

This matchup raises some big questions.

The Bills dominated the Raiders when they played in Week 4, so the initial prediction would be that the Bills will dominate the Chiefs. Even though the transitive property predicts the Bills will win, the Chiefs are going to be prepared after losing last weekend to the Raiders.

When looking at both rosters on paper, the Chiefs look better when considering matchups. The Titans were able to expose Josh Allen last week. Kansas City will have Josh Allen scouted to frustrate him like the Titans did.

The Chiefs will not have another game like last week. They had 10 total penalties accounting for 94 yards lost. Their defense has been too inconsistent, and the Kansas City coaching staff will implement some discipline to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

The Bills can win this game by forcing the Chiefs to run the ball. The Bills have one of the best run defenses in the league. They were able to hold Derrick Henry to only 59 rushing yards in their loss to the Titans.

If the Bills can focus their defense on the passing game to stop Mahomes, they’ll have an increased chance of winning this game.

This is going to be a great battle featuring two young and talented dual-threat quarterbacks. In the end it will come down to the defensive side of the ball. Allen and Mahomes will make big plays, it is bound to happen. It just depends on who will get more stops.

The Chiefs will lead a close game early on, but will pull away in the fourth quarter to win this game. The Bills will not be able to keep up with Kansas City’s offensive tempo. Expect a high scoring game featuring explosive plays coming from both teams.

Prediction: Chiefs 35, Bills 27
