UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Add two more names to the commit list. Penn State Football’s 2022 Recruiting Class expanded further on National Signing Day on Feb. 2.

The Nittany Lions’ list is compiled of nine enrollees - 16 signed letters of intent and one transfer. The most recent signing news broke during head coach James Franklin’s Signing Day press conference in the mid-morning on Wednesday.

Offensive lineman Olaivavega 'Vega' Ioane inked his National Letter of Intent to join the Blue and White. The three-star prospect decommitted from the University of Washington in December 2021 and pursued Penn State.

Originally from Graham, Wash., Ioane traveled to State College just a few days before Signing Day and made his decision in that time.

Lions 247 ranks him No. 18 nationally among interior offensive linemen with experience playing on both sides of the football. After being on Penn State’s watch list, Ioane’s official announcement delighted Franklin and generated more positive buzz about the Nittany Lions’ 2022 recruitment outlook.

With a finishing record of 7-foot-6 on the 2021 season, a loss in the Outback Bowl and a slew of 2022 NFL Draft Prospects handing in their uniforms, Penn State looked to its 2022 recruiting class to replenish its roster.

The addition of three five-star recruits, quarterback Drew Allar, running back Nicholas Singleton and defensive lineman Dani Dennis-Sutton, bolstered Penn State’s 2022 class ranking to No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 6 nationally. More recruits flooded in and filled roster spots potentially open to starter contention.

The defense’s needs became top priority for the Nittany Lions with the departures of safety Jaquan Brisker and defensive end Arnold Ebiketie at the end of the 2021 season.

Safety Tyrece Mills joins the Blue and White from Lackawanna College, a school that Penn State Football is quite familiar with, as both Brisker and Ji’Ayir Brown are transfers from the private college in Scranton, Pa.

Mills ranks No. 2 in Pennsylvania and No. 14 on Lions247’s composite rankings. Mills originally committed in May 2021, but inked his Letter of Intent on National Signing Day.

Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class has 25 players officially signed or committed on National Signing Day. The new prospects add to a recruiting year bringing much excitement to Nittany Nation.
