Penn State in the NFL: Week 7
While many players are making large contributions to their respective teams, a decent number of Penn State alumni are out due to injuries. Miles Sanders sat out on Thursday in the Eagles win against the Giants due to a knee injury. Reports say that he is expected to miss one to two weeks. The Eagles have not mentioned whether or not he is clear for their next game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Yetur Gross-Matos continues to recover from an ankle injury, while Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee and Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski remain on the injured reserve. And, of course, Saquon Barkley is out for the season with a torn ACL.
KJ Hamler, however, bounced back this week after a hamstring injury left him sidelined for a month. Videos surfaced of him warming up for his return without a shirt on in the snow and freezing cold of Denver, Colorado. Hamler recorded two receptions for a total of 24 receiving yards, including a 21-yard gain.
Also for the Broncos, DaeSean Hamilton recorded two receptions for first downs for a total of 26 receiving yards. But their efforts were not enough to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, as the Broncos lost 43-16.
Receiver Chris Godwin returned from setbacks this season, recording a total of 88 receiving yards and an impressive seven first down conversions against the Raiders in the Buccaneers’ 45-20 win. Godwin’s textbook toe-dragging catch in the corner of the end zone gave Tampa Bay a two-score lead halfway through the fourth quarter.
Despite these impressive numbers, Godwin will be going back on the injury report, as he is expected to have surgery for a broken finger and will miss the Buccaneers’ Week 8 game against the Giants.
Amani Oruwariye contributed to the Lions’ 23-22 win over the Falcons. Oruwariye had a total of four tackles, three solo and one for loss. As a second-year player, Oruwariye is taking strides in his development as a player and is making a case for Detroit’s No. 1 cornerback.
In the Green Bay Packers’ win over the Texans, Adrian Amos had five solo tackles (six in total), one sack and a fumble recovery to aid the Packers in a 35-20 win.
On both sides of the field, Penn State alumni Kevin Givens and Robbie Gould contributed to the 49ers’ 33-6 win over the Patriots. Defensive tackle Givens recorded two tackles and one sack while kicker Gould went 2-for-2 on field goals.
Despite a loss for the Bears on Monday night, Allen Robinson had four receptions for a total of 70 yards, including a 42-yard catch early in the fourth quarter, but the Rams won 24-10.
Unfortunately, Trace McSorley’s TikTok fame has not translated to much playing time for the Ravens, as Lamar Jackson continues to quarterback Baltimore.
