Penn State looks to rebound against winless St. Bonaventure
The start of conference play for Penn State didn’t provide great results for the blue and white last weekend.
While winning just one of three games during the weekend isn’t ideal, the best cure for a struggling baseball team may be playing a fellow struggling baseball team.
Luckily for the Nittany Lions, they will gain the chance at just that.
The Nittany Lions will close out their long homestand on Wednesday as they take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.
When it was mentioned that the Bonnies come into the one-game series struggling, that should not be taken lightly.
With a record of 0-14 on the season, the Bonnies got swept in their most recent two-game series against Valparaiso over the weekend.
The scheduled third game in that series, which was supposed to be played on Sunday, was canceled due to inclement weather.
Following a loss in 10 innings during the Bonnies season opener against Marshall, only two other games this season have been decided by three or more runs.
While the Nittany Lions have played in many more closer games compared to the Bonnies this season, that wasn’t the case during the team's final game against Rutgers last weekend.
The blue and white dropped that game in what was a staggering 20-6 loss in front of the home crowd against the Scarlet Knights.
During the game, the Nittany Lions allowed a total of 25 hits with four Scarlet Knight players recording four or more hits.
Penn State did manage to win one game over the weekend against the Scarlet Knights with that game being played one day earlier.
While the losing team in that game also scored six runs, it would be the Nittany Lions on the winning end of an 8-6 final score.
Jay Harry tied for the team lead with 3 RBI’s with one of them coming off a solo home run in the second inning.
The Nittany Lions were supposed to play at home against in-state rival Pittsburgh on Tuesday but that game was postponed due to weather.
Should Wednesday’s game not get postponed for similar reasons it should present the Nittany Lions with a great opportunity to rebound and get back in the win column before hitting the road to continue conference play.
