Penn State vs. Minnesota Series History

Penn State is 8-4 all-time against Minnesota.

The last time the teams played was in October of 2010, at Minnesota. Penn State won, 33-21. Future Penn State starter Matt McGloin took over for an injured Rob Bolden in the second quarter, and led the Nittany Lions to victory.

McGloin made his first career completion in the last meeting, tossing a 42-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver, Derek Moye.

The first time these two teams met was in 1993, at Beaver Stadium. Penn State won 38-20. The game also marked Penn State’s first ever Big Ten game.

Of the twelve meetings between these teams, Penn State has been ranked six times and Minnesota has been ranked on three occasions.

The teams have never competed against each other when both were ranked.

The longest win streak in the series is four, which has been held by both teams. Minnesota held the streak from 1999 to 2004 (teams did not meet in 2001 and 2002). Penn State has held the streak twice, from 1993 to 1998 (teams did not meet in 1995 and 1996) and from 2005 to now (teams did not meet in 2007 and 2008).

The most points the Nittany Lions have scored in this series is 56, which happened in 1994.

The most points the Golden Gophers have scored in this series is 25, which happened in 2000.

The least points Penn State has allowed in this series is 0 in 2009. The least points Minnesota has allowed in this series is 7 in 2004.

The greatest margin of victory for the Nittany Lions in this series is 53, when they won 56-3 in 1994.

The greatest margin of victory for the Golden Gophers in this series is nine, which they did twice, first in 2000 when they won 25-16 and then again in 2004, when they won 16-7.

This is the first time that the two teams will be meeting in the Bill O’Brien era.
