PSU Hockey Player Spotlight: David Goodwin

An experienced, elite forward has a huge role to play for the Penn State men’s hockey team in the 2015-2016 season. David Goodwin, a junior from Des Peres, Missouri, had incredible seasons the past two years. Goodwin recorded 18 points as a freshman and nearly doubled that in his sophomore year, tallying 34 points. Those 34 points were good for second on the team and seventh in all of the Big Ten. The junior has gotten off to a slow start this season, and has been sluggish at times, but really needs to lead the team going forward this season.

Goodwin received a handful of awards last year as he excelled as a sophomore for the Nittany Lions. He was awarded with a Big Ten Honorable Mention and was also on the Academic All-Big Ten team. Expectations are through the roof for Goodwin entering this season, but he has turned the puck over at times this season, which is unusual for a player like himself.

Two weekends ago when Penn State was playing Canisius, Goodwin had a decent start to his junior year. In that game, he recorded a goal and three assists which looked to give him momentum going into the Notre Dame series. Goodwin went in the Notre Dame series and like many, was eager to get points. He has a senior on his line that goes by the name of David Glen and also happens to be the captain.

“David has been great. It seems like we’re getting a scoring opportunity every shift. We feel confident in our scoring chances,” said Goodwin. “He’s a great leader and is very likeable. He works so hard and it’s so easy to follow his lead.”

Let’s hope this upcoming weekend will turn things around for Goodwin.  Penn State will be taking on American International College in a clash with the team from Springfield, Massachusetts. The blue and white will look to take the two games from the Jackets after splitting the series with Notre Dame last weekend. David Goodwin is definitely a guy to keep your eyes on this weekend and throughout the whole season. He will be looking to find his own self after struggling to score this past weekend.

ComRadio will have both games against AIC this weekend. Friday’s pregame show with interviews and play-by-play coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. with puck drop at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, we will be back on the air at 2:30 p.m. for the pregame show with the game to follow at 3:00 p.m. Will David Goodwin get back on track and convert on the many scoring opportunities he and his line have had?
