Steve Jones, a Penn State grad in 1980, went to school without really knowing what he wanted to do.  During his sophomore year he joined the Penn State radio team and quickly become enamored with it.  Jones would quickly combine radio with his love for sports and he would never look back.  Upon graduation he had three job offers on the table.  News, sports, and play-by-play in Seneca Falls, New York, weekend news and sports in Springfield, Massachusetts, and Penn State news and sports.  He would go on to choose Penn State because this is where he wanted to be.  It wouldn’t take long until he was the 3rd member of the Penn State football team and the lead play-by-play guy for Penn State basketball.

After Fran Fisher retired in 2000, Jones would be offered his dream job: play-by-play voice for the Penn State football team.  He took it without hesitation and has now been the play-by-play guy for the past 14 seasons.  He also teaches a sports broadcast class at the university.

Jones is very thankful to have worked with a lot of great people over the years.  His current color analyst, Jack Hamm was a standout player for Penn State before having a hall of fame career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  For Penn State basketball he works alongside Dick Jerardi, whom is considered by many as one of the top sports writers in the nation.  Jones has also worked closely with the Penn State football coaches.

As well as spending a lot of time with Penn State athletics, Jones is also a devoted husband and father.  He is married to his wife, Kathy, and they have five children together.  Jones is very proud to have said he coached his little league’s baseball team for 14 years and has only missed one piano recital (and it wasn’t his fault, he added.)

Jones is thankful that he has the luxury of going into work every morning and loving what he does.  Jones and fans alike should be excited about hearing Jones’ voice every Saturday during this exciting time for Penn State football.
