Sylvester Williams goes from community college to first round prospect

Audio/Story posted April 24, 2013 in CommRadio, Sports, NFL Draft by Patrick Woo

Early academic struggles for Sylvester Williams allowed him to play just one year of high school football. He then had to take his talents to Coffeyville Community College.

But, now the defensive tackle has a degree-in-hand from the University of North Carolina and is a first round NFL Draft prospect.

Williams said he didn’t see himself going to college at all, let alone getting to where he is now as he hopes to become the best defensive tackle to ever play.

The Senior Bowl MVP has drawn interest from several teams, most notably the Dallas Cowboys, who hold the 18th overall pick in this April’s draft.

Williams is a great athlete with a high motor and says he could still take some guys on the basketball court. The 313-pound linemen played basketball in high school at 316 pounds, proving his athleticism.

Williams said the best offensive lineman he’s ever faced is former teammate Jonathan Cooper, also a first round prospect.

Williams was invited to New York City for the draft but won’t attend.
