Team USA Stays On Top In Presidents Cup Victory

The Presidents Cup stays home with the stars and stripes. For the 12th time in 14 years and their ninth-consecutive win, Team USA defeats Team International in a 17.5 to 12.5 victory.

Spectators filed into Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina to watch the most elite golfers from around the world compete for a global title.

The 2022 Team USA roster was wisely compiled with premier players to represent the United States. Heading into the Cup play, captain Davis Love III and Team USA drew 1992 Olympics ‘Dream Team’ comparisons with a heavy-favorited lopsided roster that included No. 1 ranked Scottie Scheffler, No. 4 Patrick Cantlay and No. 8 Justin Thomas (via Official World Golf). Rising stars on the tour, Max Homa, Cameron Young and Sam Burns had their first experiences representing the United States in the victory.

In the five point victory, San Diego, California-native Xander Schauffele, holed a short birdie putt as he defeated Canada-native Corey Conners and clinched the Cup. Ranked No. 5 in the Official World Golf Rankings, Schauffele is playing arguably the best golf of his career. The 28-year old has three wins in the 2021-22 season: Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Travelers Championship and Genesis Scottish Open.

The heart-and-soul of the red, white and blue was none other than Jordan Spieth. The 2015 Masters Champion went 5-0-0 on the weekend as he sank five birdies to defeat the Australian-native Cam Davis. The product of Dallas, Texas defeated Davis in a score of four and three en route to a singles win.

With 17.5 total points, Team USA put on a masterclass effort all around the course with singles wins from Cantlay, Schauffele, reigning Wells Fargo champion Max Homa and reigning Rocket Mortgage champion Tony Finau.

At the end of the day, the scorecard can only tell so much of a story. For these 12 hand-picked golfers, there’s no bigger accomplishment than representing Team USA across their chests.

Sitting parallel with The Masters, Open Championship and other high-profile tour events, the Presidents Cup represents something larger than an individual award. Instead, this represents a national honor for America.

With the 2023 Presidents Cup scheduled to be played next Sept. 29 - Oct.1. Team USA will be playing on foreign soil for the first time since 2019. The Land of the Free and Home of The Brave will look to hold onto the Cup title for the tenth consecutive year.
