UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State first-year students, who missed the original Committee Member application deadline, will still have the opportunity to become involved in THON.

This committee began last year to provide more opportunities for first-year students to become involved in THON.

Students will be able to work as volunteers, which is different from last year.

“We’re very excited that we’re going to  be able to provide that in-person on weekend staffing experience for first years,” communications director of THON, Lily Pevoto said.

Selected students will become involved with THON for approximately six weeks in January and February, beginning in the spring semester.

Pevoto said they are open to many first-year students that are interested in becoming involved in THON. Students do not need experience, but they do need a willingness to learn and be dedicated to attend weekly meetings.

“We really want this opportunity for us to invent in first-year students, so they can become leaders in the future.” Peveto said.

Individuals will be placed on a committee with approximately 25 other students, and the experience will focus on educating first-year committee members on THON’s mission and organizational structure, as well as providing them with unique roles to carry out during THON Weekend.

“We are going to try to get them a little taste of everything,” Pevoto said.

Pevoto said first-year committee members could work concessions, security, or the floor. They will see different perspectives that volunteers get throughout THON weekend.

Any first-year student is encouraged to apply at think.THON.org. Applications will close on Dec. 20 at 5 p.m.

If interested students have any questions, they can email Pevoto at communications@thon.org.
