ESPN College GameDay’s Atmosphere was Second to None
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The highlight of last week was not just Penn State’s first White Out game since 2019, but also the arrival of the ESPN’s College GameDay.
Noach Sachs, a junior majoring in finance, had a lot to say about the crowds that gathered near Old Main, as he got up at 3:30 a.m. just to get into the GameDay pit.
“By the time Corso made his pick around noon, you could see people all the way back to the HUB lawn,” Sachs said. “And even at like 9:00 a.m. you look back and all you see is people dressed in white holding up their signs.”
Jaydev Bahkta, a senior majoring in information sciences and technology, also got up early to see GameDay with his friends. Although not an avid football fan, Bahkta mentioned the fact that the event was just as crazy as the White Out game.
“It was crazy there. A lot of people made signs and then when Saquon came everybody lost their minds,” Bahkta said.
For some, this was just an opportunity to see Penn State football alumnus Saquon Barkley, as a lot of excitement was drawn out by his arrival.
“When he finally came out of Old Main, we all got up to the railing and tried to reach out and get a high five from him,” Bahkta said.
To Sachs, waiting in line to get into the pit was a repeat of two years ago, when ESPN arrived for Penn State’s fight against Michigan.
“It was definitely worth the wait and all the energy because you have to go to College GameDay,” Sachs said. “When College Gameday comes that’s how you know it’s a big game.”
