Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Week 8

Story posted December 1, 2022 in CommRadio, Sports by James Morrison

As Week 8 of the fantasy hockey season continues there were some very important transactions that took place in the beginning of the week.

The Minnesota Wild sent forward Marco Rossi to the AHL but it remains to be seen if he will return and potentially break out after a very slow start to the season.

The Flyers placed forward Travis Konecny on injured reserve and the Sharks did the same with goaltender James Reimer.

Forward Kailer Yamamoto is also headed to injured reserve while forward Scott Laughton was activated and could potentially crack the top six for the Flyers.

Goaltender Ilya Samsonov was activated off injured reserve and could take away some of Matt Murray’s time in net for the Maple Leafs.

Penguins defenseman Kris Letang is out indefinitely after suffering a stroke.

If you are in need of a forward this week, Devils Yegor Sharangovich has 18 points in the last 15 days and faces the Predators, Flyers and Blackhawks in his next three games.

He is currently playing on the third line but could crack the top six if the Devils opt to give players rest games.

Another option is the Sabres’ Dylan Cozens who has 17.8 points in the past two weeks.

After playing the Avalanche, the Sabres will host the Sharks and travel to Columbus where a lot of goals will likely be scored.

Cozens is currently slated on the second line with fellow youngsters Jack Quinn and JJ Peterka.

Jordan Eberle and Jared McCann are also viable options for the upcoming week as the Kraken have three straight home games before traveling to Washington.

Eberle and McCann play on the second line with Matty Beniers and the trio has combined 56 points on the season.

Lightning winger Brandon Hagel has also been on a hot streak recently with 10.3 points in his last three games.

After playing the Flyers, Tampa Bay has four straight home games and Hagel plays on the top line with Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov.

If you are in need of defenseman, stay with the Kraken and add Justin Schultz who is averaging 1.8 fantasy points per game.

If you are looking for a deep sleeper, check out Sharks’ Matt Benning as a viable option as he has 16.5 points in the last 15 days.

San Jose has a fairly easy upcoming stretch and Benning is paired with Marc-Edouard Vlasic so he will be the top offensive option on the blue line

In the absence of Jake Muzzin and Morgan Rielly, Rasmus Sandin has stepped up for the Maple Leafs and is owned in just 4.5% of leagues.

Sandin has 15.6 points in the last two weeks and is playing with Timothy Liljegren recently.

If you are looking for goaltenders, it is very slim picking but Jeremy Swayman should be considered as it remains to be seen how the Bruins want to work Linus Ullmark back after his injury.

The Bruins have also been one of the best teams this season which helps Swayman’s case.

Craig Anderson is still in the NHL and starting for the Sabres if you need an almost every night goaltender.
