NFL MVP Watch: Week 7

Story posted October 20, 2022 in CommRadio, Sports by Reagan Phillips

We are through six weeks of the NFL season, and the action has been historically competitive, highlighted by a host of quarterbacks emerging as candidates.

Josh Allen

Josh Allen entered the season with the best odds to win MVP and has strengthened his case in this past game against the Kansas Chiefs.

Staying on top of his game and outplaying Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes, Allen has been nothing short of great. With a 66.9 completion rate, he is just as talented with his legs as his arm. With 32 rushing yards on 12 attempts this past weekend, it is easy to say that Allen is a clear-cut betting favorite this season if he keeps playing how he has been.

Patrick Mahomes

Pat Mahomes put up such a tough fight against Josh Allen, and they now have a must-watch rivalry dating back to last postseason.

The absence of his great wide receiver Tyreek Hill has made Mahomes spread the ball around and become a much more efficient, patient passer. With a high completion rate of 65.9, he’s also tied for first with 17 touchdowns.

Mahomes has a rocket arm and is also an incredible at decision maker. He’s ranked first in touchdowns per pass attempt and third in first touchdowns per pass attempt leaving him at the top of the list for potentially winning his second MVP award.

Jalen Hurts

It’s seriously looking up from past years for the Philadelphia Eagles. After a 26-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys, they are the only undefeated team left standing in the NFL.

Hurts has heightened his throwing mechanics tremendously from year two to year three. After many speculations about Hurt's recent passing usage, he silenced the critics with an efficient 15-of-25 for 155 yards and two touchdowns against the Cowboy's defense, surrendering just 16.3 points per game.

Hurts is the Eagles third QB to start a season 6-0, joining Ron Jaworski and Donovan McNabb - both of whom took the Eagles to the Super Bowl in those years.

It looks like the talented Jalen Hurts may do the same and maybe take home the MVP too.

Joe Burrow

In Week 6, upon his return to the Super Dome where he won his famous College Football Playoff National Championship, the Bayou Boys former LSU greats Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase played just like old times.

Burrow completed 28-of-37 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns while avoiding costly turnovers to pull a huge win against New Orleans. His completion rate of 66.7 puts him as a tough component to beat for the top MVP spot.
