Van Ness took a 2-0 lead with a nasty nearside trip to score in the first 30 seconds of the match, and followed that up with a high crotch shot to take the 7-1 lead halfway through the second period.

With 30 seconds left in the second period, Van Ness broke through on a vicious double leg and got the near fall but couldn’t secure the pin before time ran out, 12-2 at the end of the second period.

Van Ness’s relentless pressure made it 16-2 halfway through the thief leading to an absolutely brilliant cradle to pin Connor Eck for the win.

Displaying heavy hands immediately off the whistle, Barraclough got the last second takedown after a tough scramble causing Lockhaven to challenge the call.

In less than 30 seconds, Kerkvliet secured the emphatic takedown making it 4-0 in the first period.

Kerkvilet used the second takedown to put in a deep wrist and half muscling his way to pin against Miller in the first period.

Penn State won the dual comfortably, 44-3 in its season opener at Rec Hall.

Nittany Lions’ head coach Cael Sanderson believes in this lineup to deliver for the rest of the season.

“Our lineup has a star at every spot. This team will be a very fun team to watch this season,” Sanderson said.

It’s still early on, but Penn State wrestling wants to maintain their dominant form for the entirety of this season.
