UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 12 Penn State welcomed the Ravens from New Hampshire to Hockey Valley for a two-game game series for the first time in team history, and got out to a hot start with a 6-0 victory in game one.

After a slow first period on the scoreboard, the Lady Lions outplayed the Ravens, outshooting them 15-4 with just one going in, courtesy of Alyssa Machado.

Later on, Penn State senior, Izzy Heminger sent a beautiful assist to her teammate Maeve Connolly to score her first goal of the season 15 minutes into the second period.

After an aggressive period given by Penn State bringing the heat, they defeated the Ravens with shots on goal 28-8.

The Nittany Lions entered the third period at full strength, with a 3-0 lead. At 2:04, Tessa Jancke scored her fifth goal of the season with a fantastic slapshot from the blue line.

Maeve Connolly took a penalty for hooking, giving the Ravens a chance to score on the power play. During the power play, the Ravens were able to put three shots on goal, but Nittany Lions goalie Josie Bothun wouldn’t let down.

The team played quite aggressively, facing six penalties, whereas the Ravens had just two.

The Ravens’ defense just could not keep up with the Nittany Lions’ fantastic offense. With just five minutes left in the third period, Eleri Mackay had a breakaway and made her first career goal as a Nittany Lion. Just minutes later, captain Mallory Uihlein also scored a gorgeous unassisted goal.

“That was my first of the season, and I am going to make sure it was not my last,” Eleri.

Concluding the game, head coach Jeff Kampersal said, "It has been an amazing weekend all around for Penn State. After field hockey's win, and the whiteout win, it was just a perfect way to end the weekend to have a blowout."

The Nittany Lions showed that speed is their friend. They’ll have a very successful season if they keep up their speed and agility that they had at this game for the games to follow.

They take on Franklin Pierce for a decisive game two tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 24.
