UFC 285 Main Card Predictions

Story posted March 3, 2023 in CommRadio, Sports by Brady McCormick

As the long-awaited UFC card is finally upon us, highlighted by the return of one of the most decorated UFC fighters of this generation, Jon Jones, let’s look into these matchups and give predictions for some of the main fights.

Bo Nickal (3-0) vs. Jamie Pickett (13-8)

One of the most talked about up and coming UFC fighters, Bo Nickal, is finally set to make his UFC debut. Nickal is a three-time wrestling National Champion for Penn State, holding an all-time record of 187-7.  He is set to face Jamie Pickett who holds a 1-4 record in the UFC dating back to 2020.

Nickal is the heavy favorite in this contest, and for good reason as he displays a ground game that can compete with anyone in this division. Look for him to put his striking-game on display as he aims to prove he has the talent in that department of his game.

Prediction: Bo Nickal via Submission

Valentina Shevchenko (23-3) vs. Alexa Grasso (15-3)

A highly anticipated women’s flyweight bout is finally about to take place as Valentina Shevchenko and Alexa Grasso battle for the title on Saturday night. Both of these women are on big win-streaks as Shevchenko has nine straight wins and Grasso has four.

Valentina is one of the most decorated fighters in the UFC. Her title reign has been dominant, and she is undoubtedly the most complete fighter in her respected division. Alexa Grasso is someone to take seriously though, making her last few bouts look easy en route to victory. Look for a very technical title fight here as both women know what they’re getting themselves into.

Prediction: Valentina Shevchenko via unanimous decision

Jon Jones (26-1) vs. Ciryl Gane (11-1)

Jon Bones Jones, one of if not the best UFC fighter in the world is finally set to make his return since his last fight in February 2020. He is moving up to heavyweight as he looks to start a new reign in this division.

Ciryl Gane, will be his opponent, as he will look to capture the coveted heavyweight belt, having previously failed to do so before. Gane’s only loss came against Francis Ngannou, as he was unable to deal with the ground-game of Francis. He will look to frustrate Jones and use his previous Heavyweight experience to his benefit.

Prediction: Jon Jones via split decision

Other Predictions:

Geoff Neal vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov

Prediction: Shavkat Rakhmonov via Submission

Mateusz Gamrot vs. Jalin Turner

Prediction: Mateusz Gamrot via split decision
