Mental Health and Wellness Week
UNIVERSITY PARK-- Mental Health and Wellness Week will continue today through Friday, November 30. University Park Undergraduate Association kicked off events on Monday night with the showing of a documentary titled "Lift the Mask: Portraits of Life with Mental Illness".
At-Large Representative of UPUA Morgan Sloan says mental health is a very pertinent issue right now in our world.
“It’s important for us as student leaders to advocate and show people that there are resources especially with the size of the campus. CAPS tends to get overflowed with students,” Sloan said.
This documentary shares the stories of six individuals suffering from mental health issues. This film was presented by the Quell Foundation whose mission is to lower the number of suicides, overdoses and incarcerations of people with mental health illness.
Director of Marketing and Communications for the Quell Foundation, Sarah Marshall, says the foundation’s incentive is to prevent these horrible stories that happen to our family and friends who suffer from mental health.
“How are we doing this? Making this documentary, talking to students, talking to health care providers, talking to professionals,” Marshall said.
UPUA’S Mental Health and Wellness Week will end on Friday with kickboxing in room 124 of the IM building at 1:30 p.m.
