Hobey Baker Watch List: Week Three
Week three of the regular season has come to a close, and once again, it’s time we look at how the early season Hobey Baker race is going on.
1. Jimmy Vesey (LW, Harvard)
Jimmy Vesey had an incredible game against Dartmouth, tallying four points. Harvard trounced Dartmouth 7-0 Saturday night, going three for three on the power play. Vesey scored on the final powerplay where he weaved through the defense before firing a wrist shot past Dartmouth goaltender James Kruger. Vesey also had three assists on the night to cap off a stellar performance. This was the official start to the Crimson’s season after tying New Brunswick in an exhibition last weekend. Vesey and Harvard look to continue their fast start later today finishing their home and home series with Dartmouth. Next weekend they play host to Yale and Brown.
2. Dennis Kravchenko (F, UMass)
Dennis Kravchenko replaces teammate Austin Plevy this week after scoring twice against Maine. The sophomore has started this season at a blistering pace, with 12 points total on the young year, tying him for the lead in the NCAA. He also has seven goals so far which is also tied atop the NCAA. The Minutemen suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday to Yale in the Capital City Classic held in Trenton New Jersey. They will look to get back on the winning track Tuesday night when they travel to No. 4 Boston College. UMass also has a home and home series this coming weekend with UConn.
3. Tyler Kelleher (RW, New Hampshire)
Another player off to a quick start this year is junior right winger Tyler Kelleher of the New Hampshire Wildcats. Tied for the NCAA lead with 12 points through six games, the 5’6” winger has displayed elite vision and passing ability so far this year. Leading the NCAA with nine assists, the New Hampshire offense has flowed through him recently, and he has been hot as a firecracker. He has eight points over his past three games and has been instrumental in guiding the Wildcats to a 3-2-1 start. Kelleher and the Wildcats travel to East Lansing this coming weekend where they will take on the Spartans of Michigan State in a weekend series.
