UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Following the debut of Penn State hockey’s White Rush jerseys, fans can now place bids to win the uniforms through an auction.

The jerseys were worn in the team’s Saturday night game against Notre Dame in the Nittany Lions’ annual White Rush game. Penn State lost the game to Notre Dame 4-2.

Following the game, supporters of Penn State hockey could begin to place bids on each jersey with the proceeds going toward Hockey Coaches Care and THON.

The uniforms feature a football-like twist with numbers on the front and no last names on the back. In addition, the helmets resembled those worn by Penn State football, featuring a blue stripe down the middle.

While Penn State lost the game, it was still a cool opportunity for the players to sport the new jerseys. Freshman forward Connor McMenamin was excited to take part in his first White Rush game and wear the jersey.

“The jerseys are super special,” McMenamin said. “I’ve only seen White Out games here, but I’ve never been able to be a part of one, so I think everyone is really excited for it.”

While Penn State has had White Rushes before, this is the first time players were able to participate by wearing the all-white jerseys. Junior defenseman Cole Hults was excited to wear the white jerseys for the first time as well.

“I think it’s pretty cool, and we’ve been doing the White Out for the last couple years,” Hults said. “To actually get us to participate in it, I think it’s going to be pretty cool and hopefully we get some good pictures out of it.”

Penn State head coach Guy Gadowsky said it was something that was discussed for a long time to honor the tradition of Penn State football. While Penn State lost Saturday night, it was still an incredible opportunity and one that will support a great cause.
