Hundreds of State College protestors marched peacefully through State College this afternoon chanting, “no justice, no peace” in memory of George Floyd, who died last week after being arrested by Minneapolis police.

Protesters marched in a loop starting at the Allen Street Gate to Penn State, then down College Avenue and back on Beaver Avenue, ending in front of the borough building on Allen Street. They staged a die-in lying down on the street and observing several minutes of silence in memory of George Floyd’s death.  Several people, including football player CJ Thorpe, spoke passionately about the tragedy in Minneapolis.

Matthew Wilson, Assistant State College Police Chief,  said he understood their emotional response and appreciated the fact that organizers kept the event under control, and that protesters were being responsible and wearing masks.
