Around the Big Ten: Week 4
Five Big Ten teams are ranked after Week 4, Wisconsin suffered huge loss to No. 12 Notre Dame and Maryland is 4-0 knocking on the door of the AP Top 25.
Penn State jumps to No. 4 with 38-17 win over Villanova and passes No. 5 Iowa
Sean Clifford completed 19 of 26 passes for 401 yards along with slinging four touchdowns and one interception.
FCS opponent Villanova could not stop the passing game as Parker Washinton recorded five receptions for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and his fellow teammate Jahan Dotson had seven receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown.
The Nittany Lions will host Indiana Saturday night.
Wisconsin gets bounced out of the top 25 after No. 12 Notre Dame scores 31 in the fourth quarter to win 41-13.
Graham Mertz posed no threat against the Fighting Irish’s defense.
He committed five turnovers, two of them leading to 14 points for the Irish. He is now 0-5 in his career against ranked teams and will look to redeem himself this week.
Wisconsin will host the No. 14 Michigan Wolverines Saturday at noon. This will be one of the few Big Ten West against East showdowns to look forward to this week.
Maryland defeated Kent State 37-16 and is the only unranked 4-0 team in the Big Ten.
Taulia Tagovailoa completed 31 of 41 passing attempts for 384 yards along with three touchdowns and one interception. Tayon Fleet-Davis ran for 60 yards and two scores as he couldn’t be stopped by Kent State’s defense.
Maryland’s offense was electric through the air and on the ground and had Kent State on its heels all game.
Maryland will host No. 5 Iowa on Friday night and get the chance to prove themselves to the CFB Committee.
No. 10 Ohio State routs non-conference foe Akron 59-7
After facing defensive struggles the first three weeks of the season with a close loss to Oregon Ohio State only allows seven points.
CJ Stroud did not get the start as he is dealing with an injury. Instead, Kyle McCord got the start and completed 13 of 18 passes for 319 yards along with two touchdowns and one interception.
The Buckeyes made it look easy with Treveyon Henderson and Master Teague III in the back field. Henderson rushed eight times for 93 yards along with two touchdowns and Teague III also rushed eight times for 71 yards and two touchdowns.
Ohio State will travel to New Jersey to face the Scarlet Knights Saturday afternoon.
