College Football Game of the Week: Oklahoma State vs. Texas

Story posted October 16, 2021 in Sports, CommRadio by Walker Wiest

A Big 12 Conference showdown between No. 12 Oklahoma State and host No. 25 Texas will be one for the ages. The Cowboys head into this game undefeated and are looking to continue that streak as the Longhorns look to bounce back after a tough loss to Oklahoma last week.

Last week, Oklahoma State knocked off the Baylor Bears, 24-14 following the Cowboys rushing attack. Jaylen Warren carried the ball 36 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns.

The Cowboys have won both of their ranked matchups this season and their defensive line has been a problem to get past on third down.

The big question is can Texas shake off the loss to Oklahoma after its defense collapsed? The Sooners sent in backup quarterback Caleb Williams mid-game to replace Spencer Rattler and won 55-48.

Texas could not find a way to stop the Sooners’ juggernaut offense. Williams threw and ran all over the Longhorns embarrassing them. Texas will come ready to play against Oklahoma State with the intent of ruining its College Football Playoff hopes.

On the bright side, Texas’ offense looked amazing with Casey Thompson completing 20-of-34 passes for 388 yards and five touchdowns. Other notable names on Texas’ offense to lookout for are Xavier Worthy and Bijan Robinson. Worthy had nine receptions for 261 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson carried the ball 20 times for 137 yards and a touchdown.

Oklahoma State’s offense will need to produce at a high level if they plan on winning this game because it is only averaging 25.4 points per game, compared to Texas which is averaging 42 points per game.

The Longhorns will be ready to play at their home field and will come out on top despite Oklahoma State’s defensive presence.

Prediction: Texas 38, Oklahoma State 17
