UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State got a big boost to its backcourt on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior guard Myles Dread announced he is coming back to Happy Valley via his Twitter.

The guard will exercise his final year of eligibility to play a second season under coach Micah Shrewsberry. Dread is now the second guard to decide his future after senior guard Sam Sessoms decided to transfer last week.

“These last four years have been nothing but everything a kid from Detroit, Michigan could ever ask for,” Dread said. “To the fans, the supporters, Legion of Blue, and the staff, I appreciate that through all the up and downs your trust and faith in Penn State Basketball has never waivered.”

Dread was fifth on the Nittany Lions in scoring last season averaging 6.2 points.

The Detroit, Michigan, native also averaged a career-best 40.7 percent from beyond the arc, which was second on the team behind Sessoms.

Dread made his impact felt right away on the Penn State program, recording 67 three-pointers in his freshman season, which ranks second in program history.

It also was the first time that a freshman led the team in three’s since Danny Morrissey had 53 in 2004-05.

He kept his shooting pace going in his sophomore season, finishing fourth in Big Ten Conference in 3-point field goals made per game with 2.1.

Dread in his junior campaign, transitioned into a bench role providing valuable minutes stretching the floor and playing solid defense.

This past season, Dread suited up in 31 games even playing through a torn labrum in his shooting shoulder.

He recently underwent successful surgery to repair his shoulder and will be ready for the start of next season. After playing in 117 career games, Dread is excited to run it back for one more year.

“I look forward to leading this team and giving everything I have as we set out to accomplish our goals,” Dread said.
