THON 5K Marathon Is Back In-Person

Story posted October 13, 2021 in CommRadio, News by Deitric Murphy

The annual THON 5K Marathon took place in-person for the first time since 2019 at the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday, Oct 10. A pep rally, three live performances, a family speaker, a kids race and the big 5K event all took place.

Four Diamonds families were also in attendance at the event. Four Diamonds at the Penn State Health Children’s Hospital is where the proceeds from THON are donated to. The group then selects a family to receive the money. One of those families was the Packer family.

Dean Packer’s son was diagnosed with cancer and is coming up on his last treatment on Monday, Oct. 18.

“The generosity of THON and all the orgs has just been utterly amazing,” Packer said. “It’s been great knowing the generosity of all the donors. For THON, Four Diamonds, we don’t have to worry about paying a bill.”

In case you missed this event, THON has many other events coming up leading up to THON weekend on Feb. 18 - 21. They will be holding the 100 days til THON event, sporting events, a family carnival and more.
